LAKEDAIMON

This alternative name of Sparta is a HIGHLY Kartvelian toponymic structure. First, the name was mentioned by Stefanus Byzantius as Lakedaimona. Second, Spartans (Lakedemonians) are identified by Herodotus as 'Makedni' (Macedonians). Now look:

LA + KED + AIM + ONA

The root is the same as in 'makedni', and means either 'neck' or 'ridge';

'La-' is the Svan reference prefix, used everywhere;

'-am' is the Megrelian adjective suffix;

'-ona' is Laz country-ending: Lazona, Turkona, etc.

kedi --> kedami --> kedamona --> lakedamona
