AMAZONA

A big day. The word 'Amazona' may be considered deciphered.

Do you remember 'Lazona'? This is what the Laz people call their land.

Do you remember Herodotus' 'alazoni'? He thought they were a nation, but in fact 'alazoni' = 'A+Lazona', where 'A' is the Phoenician definite artcile, equivalent to the English 'The'. So, 'Alazona' is 'The Lazona'. It's not a nation, it's a land.

Now do you remember the recent story of MAZ-root which is present not only in 'lamazi', where 'la-' does not allow to see the root clearly, but also in cognant 'mazalo' meaning 'beautiful'? The same root may easily be the root in the English 'amazing' as well.

Not the tiniest thing in the world prevents us from paralleling LAZONA and MAZONA. If the first one is 'land of the Laz', then the second one must be 'land of the beautiful'. 'Amazonas' was the land of women. So, beauty should be its natural characteristc. And 'A', again' is the Phoenician definite article.

To sum up, AMAZONA = A MAZONA (THE MAZONA) = 'LAND OF BEAUTY'.

  1. Therefore maybe a River Alazani means a "beautiful river";
    Compare ამორძალი, ამორ - ძალი and French "amour".

    interesting isn't it
