SARMATIA

The name of this mythic country which, nevertheless had a huge impact on history, represent of perfect Kartvelian-language toponym and translates from Kartvelian as perfectly: Sarmati.

First of all, the ending -ati, as already has been said, in Laz language means the same as -eti means in Kartvelian language (Klimov). It's a toponymic ending meaning 'land of...". While 'Sa-' is a toponymic prefix meaning the same: 'land of...'. The tautological combination of those two should not scare the researchers off, since it happens in Kartvelian language: Saprangeti (France), Saberdzneti (Greece).

So, the root we are looking for, is 'armi'. It's not difficult to be found in the dictionary of Rayfield (არ(ა)მი [ar(a)mi]) in the meaning of 'ominous'. An extremely perfect name for Sarmatia given the reputation of its inhabitants.

Sarmatia - the Land of the Ominous.
