AUSETANI

A tribe with this name existed in Catalonia on the map of Ptolemy. This adjective (-an is a suffix) is clearly derived from the noun 'Auseti', meaning in Kartvelian 'the land of Ausi'.

Now we should recall that the Georgians used to call the Ossetians 'Ovsi', and correspondingly, their land - 'Ovseti'. The Ossetians are exactly Alans, the tribe which, according to some, contributed to form the name of 'Catalunya'.

The root 'ovsi' might be present in Ukrainian toponymy as well. At least we shouldn't forget about it when trying to find out the origins of such Ukrainian river as Ovsyanka, and such Ukrainian village as Ovsiuki.
