HUNGARIAN SURNAMES

In Hungary you will find as high a density of '-shi'-ending surnames, as in Svaneti (-sha variation), Lazica or Albania (Hungarian 's' stands for [sh]-sound):

Nyilasi, Tamasi, Fogarasi, Szepesi, Szelesi, Babosi, Lisztesi, Borbasi, Csordasi, Dudasi, Farkasi, Fazekasi, Gyepesi, Halmosi, Kardosi, Kerekesi, Kincsesi, Kocsisi, Komlosi, Korsosi, Lantosi, Fenyvesi, Majorosi, Mariasi, Markosi, Martosi, Nagymarosi, Nemesi, Palinkasi, Palotasi, Sarosi, Sebesi, Siposi, Solymosi, Szentesi, Vasasi, Vermesi...

Note that in many cases, like in 'Fogarasi', you will find the root - 'Fogara' - as a separate surname, which makes '-si' a suffix, as it is in Svan.
