The Megrelian თე in Kartvelian means ეს, which is, 'this'. Note that the exact transcription of 'თე' is not [te], but [the], with aspiration. For [t] with no aspiration the Kartvelian alphabet has a different letter - ტ.
We all remember (especially those who read my book English Grammar Untangled), that definite artcile is former demonstrative pronoun 'this' (or 'that', doesn't matter). Actually, it was paid attention to before me, but it's me who suggests using articles (in all languages) solely based on this article's origin.
Now let's transliterate the Megrelian demonstrative pronoun "თე" into Latin and get...'the'!
Here you are having the original story of the English definite article, which came into English language from Kartvelian languages, as many other things did. 'The' wasn't derived from 'this' and 'that'. Vice versa.
But the most interesting is something else. The most interesting is that I came to this while trying to decipher the name of my native country - Ukraine - which has been mystery for... ever.
The clues were Sicilian toponyms Ucria (a mountain) and surnames Ucri and, especially, Saucre (a totally Kartvelian toponymic structure), which I already told about:

According to legends, Sicily was inhabited by Trojans (Elymians):

The Trojans are known as 'Teucri':

Now in order to tie 'Teucri' to Ucria, Ucri, Saucre and, eventually, to Ukraine, we need to get rid of the 'te-' prefix somehow. And now we know how, if we consider it the Megrelian unofficial definite article. There are no official articles in Megrelian, but there are demonstrative pronouns, which we started with.
Thus, 'Teucri' become 'The Ucri'.
Now we can calmly form adjectives 'Ucriani' or "Ucrani' from the noun 'Ucri'. The '-an' suffix, which is both Kartvelian and IE, allows us to do so. And finally we add the Kartvelian-Basque definite article, the final '-a', with the help of which the names of almost all the European countries are formed: 'Ucrania'. Don't forget that in Spanish 'Ukraine' is spelled exactly as 'Ucrania'.
To sum it up, 'Ukraine' is the country of 'Teucri', the Kartvelian-speaking inhabitants of Troy. Why Ukraine used to be Kartvelian-speaking, I have been telling for the last three years everyday.
Those who are not indifferent to Ukraine's history nor to history in general, may remember this day.
