AZAGARIUS

Now it's turn of my native Dnipropetrovsk, which is mentioned on a Ptolemy's map as AZAGARIUS.

We don't need the US-ending, which is nothing else but the nominative case inflexion. We don't need either the A-prefix, which is nothing else but the Phoenician deninite article (few know that it used to be the definite artcile in Kartvelian languages as well).

So, the true root we end up with is ZAGARI. This is the name of a village in Svaneti. The word means 'mountain' or 'mountain pass' and exists in Svanetian language also in a reduced form: ZAGRI.

The ancient name of my city is a direct cognate with Croatian capital Zagreb, where the same word is used in Kartvelian plural form.

Is there any mountains in my non-mountain land? What I can say for sure, is that Dnipropetrovsk is situated on several hills. Quite similar to Madrid, to my taste. The height of the highest hill is 188 m. Quite a mountain, I must say.
