TARTARUS

Do you remember that 'Tartar' translates from Kartvelian-Svan as 'place of sturgeon'? It helped us to decipher two fundamental ancient toponyms: Tartess and Tartar. Both have direct relation to sturgeons (Betis river and Volga river).

One of the harbours near Po's estuary was called Tartarus in ancient times. Should there be any sturgeons around?

Not just around. There is a whole separate specie of sturgeon called 'Adriatic sturgeon' (Acipenser naccarii). So, Tartarus is another 'place of sturgeon'.
