άρήγω (arego)

First of all, let's recall the famous εγώ (ego) meaning 'I/me'.

Second, let's make sure that εγώ is identical to ήγώ. We can do it in Ancient Greek - Russian dictionary of Dvoretsky.

Now, let's imagine what meaning the verb άρήγω (arego) might have.

What action can AR+EGO mean?
What action can NOT+ME represent?
What is opposite to egoism? Right, it's altruism.
What is altruism? It's help.

What's the meaning of 'arego' in Ancient Greek? IT'S 'TO HELP'!

Since AR-prefix is Kartvelian, to nail the thing down we need to find a Kartvelian EG-root being cognate with 'I/Me'.

It's the outdated word ეგება (egeba) that used to have the meaning of 'becoming' and 'getting proper', among others. Not directly first person, but acceptably close to it, since 'getting proper' is close to 'getting mine'.
