MUHARIV

Muhariv is a small town in Hmelnitsky region of Ukraine. It comes from the word muhar, which is a Svan-Kartvelian word meaning 'place of oaks': 'muha' being 'oak' and '-ar' being a suffix of place.

By the way, the fact that in Kartvelian language the tree's forests should bear the '-nar' ending can be explained as follows: the true ending here is '-ar' (meaning 'place of...') and -n- is another Old Kartvelian suffix of plural. Thus, 'muhnari' is 'place of oaks' (plural), while 'muhari' is 'place of oak' (singular).
