Nauplio is a name of an ancient port in Greece. The name's origin is a mystery for Greeks themselves. Meanwhile it's formed of the Kartvelian
na-prefix (a toponymic prefix of the former place of the root) and a root '
upli' (shortened '
upali' (უფალი) meaning '
Lord'). This root is present in other toponyms such as famous
Uplistsihe, as well as in the dictionary in combination with the
na-prefix:
ნაუფლისწულევი (nauplistsulevi) -
'hereditary estate'.
