ΖΑΧΛΟΥΜΟΙ

The Primary Chronicle mentions Serbs as 'Serebi', which, as it has been already explained within Between Two Iberias project, is a Kartvelian plural form of 'seri', which altogether means 'hills'.

Here is what Constantine Porphyrogennetos writes about Serbia:

'...modern Serbia, so called, 'country of zahlumi'...'.

The word 'zahlum' is Slav and in fact is a combination 'za + hlum' - 'behind the hill'.
