Recently my Megrelian friends from Dnipropetrovsk commnunity told me that Columbus had Megrelians in his crew. Given our new etymology of 'cuba' as 'land' in Megrelian, such a version had much arguments to turn out to be true. And it did...
Actually, the updated list of Columbus' sailors can be seen here:

You may test your hunch youselves trying to prove the Megrelian origin of such surnames as Yruenes, Azoque, Moguer, Urtubia, Soria or maybe even Pinzón himself. You may succeed, or, more likely, you may not. But!...
The same list mentions the "mistaken people". Those, who were considered members of the crew by mistake. There you will see the surname of Eguía [egia], which is EXACTLY the Megrelian surname ეგია [egia], the origins of which come from Tsalenjikha in Samegrelo-Zemo:

So, Colombus indeed had Megrelians among his people, who indeed might have yelled 'Cuba!' upon having seen the island instead of 'Tierra!'...
