Do you know that Kartvelian etymology suits very well this fundamental name?
The adjective we derive from it would be 'erkuli' (ერკული), which, in its turn, should be derived from some 'erki' noun. The noun itself is not found, but its traces are quite visible in the archaic word ერკინება (erkineba) that means 'fighting somebody hand to hand'. Quite a Hercules' manner...
