You never heard this one. Might be a breakthrough. Look, we have:
1. Phasis (river and city) in Kolchida where Jason was looking for treasure (golden fleece).
2. The word ფასი in Rayfield's dictionary means exactly... treasure!
3. If you use this word to make 'land of treasure', you'll end up having ფასეთი (phaseti/пхасети).
4. If you add the A-prefix (like Abhazians do) you'll have აფასეთი (aphaseti/апхасети) which is actually აფაზეთი!
5. Now you need a 'bridge' between ფასეთი and Phasis. It's not difficult, you should recall the 'T-S' transformation (talatta-talassa or tettara-tessara, and finally, tarteti-tartess). Actually, that would be a pair Phases-Phasis, which is the same thing.
What conclusion does this lead to? It's beautiful: the word ABKHAZIA is purely Kartvelian, derived from ფასი (treasure). The whole chain explains everything.
